Crazy Kitchen Cars

June Ink Article

Here we are in June, in full swing and lovin’ every incredible minute. The Crazy Kitchen Cars Unit has given India Shrine Center a new look, a new sound and eight dedicated ‘driving Shriners’. The cars are made so versatile that they can be decorated in any theme that a parade may have. The Unit has drivers that have not been in a motorized unit before so we are all taking on the challenge and enjoying the laughs.

The Shamrocks and ponies are just the beginning. We were in full force at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade but after the 89er Parade in Guthrie we learned that one of our members who didn’t make to Guthrie had a very serious accident in his shop that morning and, Ronnie had to go by Med-flight to Oklahoma Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City. His injuries are severe and very painful. He will be in the Norman Regional Hospital Rehab Unit for an undetermined time. We are anxiously awaiting his return. Please keep him and his wife Pam in your prayers. You might want to send him a card while he is in the process of getting better. He tells us he is in therapy 6 hours a day and the rest of the time is spent resting and preparing for the next go round. This brought us sadness but he will be back as soon as he mends.

The Mulhall Western Days Parade on May 24th once again brought Salty, Sugar, Cookie, Peanut and Spice (our ponies) out of the barn and into the streets for all to enjoy. Once again they were well received and on lookers got quite a ‘kick’ out of them. Lunch at Lucille’s was unbelievable. WOW! Some members of the unit stayed behind to help India Shrine shine at AutoMax, I-40 and Sunnylane in Del City. Our vehicles were on display and we had several gift baskets that were raffled as a fundraiser. This event was a fundraiser by AutoMax with a percentage of sales that day being given to India Shrine Center. It was masterminded by Todd Oleson, another dedicated Mason and Shriner and oh, did I mention that he is the newest member of the Crazy Kitchen Cars Unit? He and his wife Lorrie will bring their talents to help raise money for children who are in need of care at a Shrine Hospital.

CSSA practice will begin very soon and that should be fun to watch. We ARE going to keep our fenders on! Right?

We are also enjoying being the Shrine cooking unit and have had several fundraisers, have some planned and looking for more. If you try us you will like us! It’s a promise. One recent event was the wedding reception for Kenny and Kat Kapp. Hey, that was fun to write! That event was such fun it hardly seemed like work. We wish them love and happiness forever. Next was the Spring Ceremonial we the members got to meet a lot of new nobles and see some faces that we hadn’t seen for a while. It is nice being a Shriner.

The CKC Unit and its Oklahoma State certified food handler is ready willing and able to assist you with any party, anniversary, graduation or any other event. You will know exactly the cost with no surprises. Please contact Captain Michael at 405-410-1000 or email us at crazykitchencars@yahoo.com.
